Raw Sewage is first admitted to a Receiving Chamber. A flow measuring arrangement is provided to know the quantity of sewage in cum/hr or lit/hr.
The Sewage then passes through a fine screen installed in a horizontal channel. The screen separates the debris from the sewage and is removed periodically.
The bio-degradation of the sewage takes place in tanks called MBBR ( Moving Bed Bio Reactor). The sewage flows in the downward direction. The oxygen is injected through air blowers at the bottom of tank and mixes with sewage in the form of coarse bubbles. PVC/PP media of hollow cylindrical forms is used to encourage the “attached growth” of bio-mass inside these cylinders.
The digested sewage further flows in to another tank called LAMELLA SETTLERS. Steeply inclined PVC tubes separate the suspended solid matter from the sewage. This matter settles down in the HOPPER provided at the bottom. It is periodically removed by operating the drain valve. The CLARIFIED water ( without any suspension) is collected at the top of the tank. Sometimes Coagulant or Polyelectrolite is added in this tank to improve the clarification efficiency.
A pump further conveys this water to PRESSURE FILTER. The media in the filter is sand and anthracite. After passing through the granular media , smallest suspended matter in the sewage gets trapped and is eliminated. The clear outlet flow from the filter is further dis-infected with CHLORINATION ( HYPO) or OZONATION to destroy and neutralize bacteria and viruses. This treated sewage can be reused for gardening, toilet flushing, car washing and other non potable applications.
The treated sewage quality confirms with the guidelines of CPHEEO Manual, Ministry of Urban Development, New Delhi
